  1. I am proclaiming today (10.3.2010) to be ESBL-producing Klebsiella day, tomorrow to be multiply-drug resistant Acinetobacter day, Tuesday to be carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) day, Wednesday to be C. difficile day, Thursday to be VRE day, and Friday to be linezolid-resistant S. aureus (LRSA) day. There will be a small ceremony at our local watering hole, The Sanctuary, on Friday night, where I'll be awarding the Dick Wenzel award to Dr. Mike Edmond, for successfully keeping all MDROs at bay through the use of "horizontal" (population based) prevention measures.
