Emergence of Linezolid‐Resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis which is cfr‐Containing

Back in February and June, we posted on a linezolid-resistant, cfr-mediated S. aureus outbreak in Spain. Now there is a new report on a clonal S. epidermidis outbreak in NE Ohio carrying the same resistance gene. The report includes strain analysis from 2 hospitals.  LRSE?

  1. Looks like I'm carrying it. It is next to impossible to treat and could be community acquired by healthy people with non-compromized immune system. It also produces PIA. I'm looking for a facility and MD who could professionally investigate the problem further.
